CLIENT: CONWY COUNTY COUNCIL

CONTRACTOR: MOWLEM CIVIL ENGINEERING

PRODUCT: ROCWALL
QUANTITY: 600M²

conwy quay

DETAILS: -

CONWY COUNCIL WANTED TO EXTEND THE EXISTING HARBOUR FACILITIES AND IMPROVE THE SCOUR PROTECTION TO THE ABUTMENTS OF THE ROAD BRIDGE BY INCREASING THE LENGTH OF THE QUAY WALL. IN ORDER TO OVERCOME THE VERY POOR GROUND CONDITIONS AND SATISFY THE NEED TO WORK IN TIDAL CONDITIONS, THEY ELECTED TO USE A DRIVEN SHEET PILE, WHICH THEY WOULD THEN CLAD. RPC CONTRACTS DESIGNED A PRE-CAST CONCRETE PANEL, FACED WITH NATURAL PITCH FACED, DRESSED LIMESTONE. THE PANELS WERE DESIGNED WITH HOOK FIXINGS, WHICH WERE HUNG ON TO A SERIES OF REINFORCING BARS, WHICH HAD BEEN WELDED TO THE SHEET PILE AFTER INSTALLATION. THE RESULTANT VOID WAS THEN FILLED BY AN IN-SITU GROUT TO FORM A COMPOSITE WALL. THE PANELS WERE DETAILED WITH T & G JOINTING HORIZONTALLY FOR LOCATION PURPOSES, AND SPLAYED ENDS TO ALLOW THEM TO BE INSTALLED TO A RADIUS. THE MAIN CONTRACTOR INSTALLED WATERPROOF JOINTING AS WORK PROCEEDED, INCLUDING STOP-ENDS AT THE END OF EACH SHIFT TO ALLOW THEM TO CARRY OUT THE IN-SITU POUR FOR EACH SECTION BEFORE THE NEXT TIDE. SPECIAL PANELS WERE CAST TO ACCOMMODATE THE STEPS, FLOATING PLATFORM AND THE SLIPWAY.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS / DETAILS: -

THE ENVIRONMENT IS AN AGGRESSIVE TIDAL FLOW IN A MARINE ENVIRONMENT. THE PANELS WERE DIMENSIONED TO COORDINATE WITH THE SIZE OF THE DRESSED STONE REQUIRED TO EMPATHISE WITH THE EXISTING ENVIRONMENT AND DESIGNED TO WITHSTAND THE PULL-OUT FORCES OF NOT ONLY THE PANEL TO PILE FIXING BUT ALSO THE SIMILAR ACTION ON THE CAST-IN DRESSED STONE.

CLIENT: WREXHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL

MAIN CONTRACTOR:- K M CONSTRUCTION ST ASAPH

wrexham bandstand

DETAILS: -
Occasionally the mundane becomes something rather different.

RPC Contracts were approached to provide a small retaining wall to form the base of a bandstand to which the client was going to attach cladding depicting the Welsh National Anthem in note form.

RPC proposed that we should produce pre-cast walls as finished articles which would include the musical notes in relief, in the concrete face.

Following acceptance of our proposals, RPC had the images of the notes transcribed onto a latex liner which was placed into specially adapted moulds to produce exactly what the client wanted, but at a fraction of the budget.

SITE ADDRESS:- BUTTERLY ENGINEERING WORKS, RIPLEY, DERBYSHIRE
CLIENT: - MORRIS HOMES LTD
SUPERVISOR:- MORRIS HOMES LTD
CONTRACTOR:- MORRIS HOMES LTD
PRODUCT: - TIMBALOK
QUANTITY: - 520M²
CONSTRUCTION PERIOD:- 8 WEEKS
retaining wall

PROJECT:- THE CONSTRUCTION OF 146 NO. 2,3,4 BED HOUSES, APARTMENTS AND AFFORDABLE HOUSES INCLUDING ALL THE ASSOCIATED WORKS.

Morris Homes required a solution to retain a bank some 6 metres in height to create car parking bays for apartments above and an aesthetically pleasing structure to look at for the houses below.

Our brief was to design a wall that was almost vertical, be able to accommodate the surcharge loadings from cars/small lorries, be able to withstand the wind loadings from a 2.4 meter high close boarded fence built into the top of the wall and to be able to have the face planted up in the future.

Our solution was to use our TIMBALOK retaining wall. The wall was designed to be built at a 6:1 batter which is only 9º off vertical and thus creating more space for the car parking bays at the top. We incorporated grow-bags within the structure to allow future planting and designed concrete fence post pad bases for the installation of a 2.4 meter high close boarded fence into the top of the wall.

The wall was completed on time and within budget and is just another example of the service, quality workmanship, value for money and problem solving from RPC Contracts

The site required extensive earth retention to enable the Contractor to maximise
the useable site area while remaining cost effective.

Additionally, the solution had to be attractive and able to blend in with the proposed Landscaping.

RPC Contracts TIMBALOK wall was chosen because it satisfied all the requirements and more.

RPC’s willingness to work with the Main Contractor and their client was foremost in their mind knowing RPC fully understand that difficult sites throw up problems which require a flexible and speedy response while all the time striving to work within the original Budget.

As for aesthetic appearance, well one look at the sinuous curves of one of the TIMBALOK walls at Crick should convince anyone.
