RPC Environmental Engineering: Grass / gravel pavers and meshes

OVERVIEW
Manufactures concrete revetment systems for erosion control. The cellular systems retain the topsoil enabling vegetation to establish itself. Solid systems are also available.

Applications include coastal protection, rivers, reservoirs, embankments and storage ponds. Also manufactures a range of grass / concrete paving systems.

OVERVIEW
The Grasscel 100 cellular concrete paving enables the design of open areas that combine the beauty of grass and natural vegetation with the strength and durability of concrete.

Grasscel's design facilitates extensive vegetation growth and provides an attractive, hard-wearing and easily laid surface area consisting of approximately 75% grass and 25% concrete. This ensures an aesthetically pleasing result that harmonises with the environment and helps reduce problems of waterlogging and surface drainage.

Grasscel consists of concrete blocks with cavities and raised platforms at regular intervals. These form channels and support pedestrian and vehicular usage. The cavities and channels are filled with soil into which grass and other small-growth vegetation can be sown to create the desired finish.

OVERVIEW
A coastal protection system, Ankalok is most suitable for sites where access is problematic and heavy handling equipment cannot be used.

Ankalok is a fully interlocking precast concrete revetment, with a unique double-anchor head shape, which ensures that each block in revetment is positively interlocked with the six surrounding units.

Tapered sides provide for the articulation of the interlocked units to a minimum 0.5m radius.
Following installation, when the cells and joints between blocks have been filled with gravel / soil, additional frictional interlock is achieved which helps to provide considerable resistance to vertical displacement.

The size and spacing of the cells provide maximum protection from erosion, whilst permitting the release of excess pore water pressure.

Above normal water level the block cells may be soil filled and seeded thus further aiding stability by root establishment.

Below water level the cells can be filled with a graded gravel to add extra weight to the armour layer and additional resistance to vertical displacement.

The simple one unit system enhances a straightforward laying procedure which allows rapid installation without the need for highly skilled labour.

Ankalok is particularly appropriate for sites with a difficult access where larger systems such as pre-assembled panels needing heavy handling equipment cannot be used.

OVERVIEW
Dycel is a fully interlocking precast concrete revetment system. It provides exceptional protection against embankment erosion above and below water level, whilst ensuring the flexibility essential to cope with variations in embankment profile.

Dycel's full depth cellular structure allows the system's stability to be enhanced by filling and seeding voids in situations above water level or by filling the voids with graded aggregate where the product is used below water level.

Seeding with prevailing natural vegetation also enables structures to harmonise with the local environment.

A solid system is available for use in particularly abrasive environments or to provide additional toe weight.

When tested as part of the CIRIA field trials in connection with The Design of Reinforced Grass Waterways (Ref. CIRIA Report 116), the Dycel 100 system withstood flow velocities in excess of 8m/sec when laid in a steep trapezoidal channel with geotextile under layer.

The Dycel system can be laid quickly and easily without the need for skilled labour.

OVERVIEW
A high specification finishing product, Dytap provides a protective surface, with the visual appearance of natural stone, for use on embankments, vertical concrete cladding or water.

Dytap is a system of precisely interlocking precast concrete units which, when laid on embankments, vertical cladding, walling, or even underwater, provides a protected surface with a visual appearance of natural random stone with the installation benefits of precast concrete.

Since its inception the Dytap system has undergone continual development to provide a primary armour/cladding system of extremely high stability with a hardwearing, aesthetically pleasing surface finish.

The combination of natural stone and concrete provides a precast unit of unique form and appearance which enables specifiers to choose a finish which harmonises with the environment.

The variety of finishes includes most naturally occurring stones and plain textured and coloured concrete.

The Dytap system can be laid quickly and easily without the need for highly skilled labour.
